Some feedback on this idea, please ? All you need are supermarket receipts from trolleys. People leave them all the time. When you're out shopping grab 'em. This lesson has numerous possibilities and can work on ALL levels.

Students have an antipathy toward questions about texts. Here's an exercise with NO text. As they work their way through the questions, the actual,text becomes clearer. There's no right answer, but there are logical ones. Silent start/ one sentence answers and then ....write up the story to which THESE are the questions. Pass to partner and answer. Student led lesson.

Lesson poses 50 things teenagers should experience/learn before becoming 20. Students discuss and perhaps add some of their own. Plenty of scope for adaptation. Let me know if you find this useful. See part 2 as well.

A variation of HOT SEATING.....students create questions they'd ask Lennie on his run from the barn.\nThey then exchange and answer. Adapt this to any other character in the novella. Clearly adaptable to ANY play/poem/novel.

Lesson focusses on the novel by Pullman but this lesson can easily be adapted to other novels/poems/texts. Students move from reading to internalising to diary entry writing in a well-structured progress. For lower levels but can be adapted upwards.

A hybrid of two lessons I saw by Sue and Mac at Hayes School. Students overcome fear and caution in a Blooms enquiry into an unseen poem. Teacher cuts out attached questions and follows instructions on slides. I've included two poems for you to try. Student led most of the way.

Lesson asks students to complete sentences which will build into an internal monologue of their classroom experience. low level but easily adapted.

Lesson for lower ability which revises conventions of the genre and asks them to complete a cloze test together with some more challenging questions. Can be adapted upwards. See 3 lessons on Ghost story writing on this site.
